Sneijder: Robben not the only threat
Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder has warned his team-mates against assuming Bayern Munich's attacking threat starts and ends with Arjen Robben.
Robben has played a key role in helping Bayern to the verge of an historic treble, scoring 20 goals in his last 24 matches, including crucial Champions League goals against Fiorentina, Manchester United and Lyon.
With his wing twin Franck Ribery unavailable due to suspension, much responsibility will rest on Robben's shoulders in tonight's Champions League final against Inter, but Sneijder insists his fellow Dutchman is not the only danger.
"We all know Robben is a good player and that he is an important player for Bayern but he is not the only one, we have to take care of everyone and we can't just focus on Robben," said Sneijder, whose team are also going for the treble having also won their domestic league and cup competitions.
"I expect a great final, it will be a big party. They are two strong teams. We have a good team, we showed this throughout the Champions League and it's the same for Bayern Munich.
"It will be a tough game from both sides and we will see at the end who is the winner."
Sneijder and Robben were team-mates at Real Madrid last season before going their separate ways, and they will be both be returning to the Bernabeu this weekend.
The irony of Sneijder and Robben each getting through to the final with their new clubs when hosts Madrid, who dispensed with the Dutch duo's services last summer after spending 250million Euros on new talent, were once again knocked out at the last-16 stage is impossible to miss.
However, while he may not have left Madrid on the best of notes, Sneijder insists that is not something he has been mulling over this week.
"I'm not thinking about these kind of things. I only want to say that I'm happy to be back here and see some people again that I haven't seen for a year, so that's nice. It will be just a game and for me it isn't anything special to be be back here," he said.
Sneijder can have little complaints about his choice of destination though, with Inter having an unforgettable season under Jose Mourinho.
Having already picked up two major trophies, the Nerazzurri will today try to become European champions for the first time in 45 years.
The 25-year-old admits he never expected to be returning to the Bernabeu for this showpiece when he bade farewell to the Spanish capital last summer.
"When I left Madrid to go to Milan I was not thinking I was going to be back for the Champions League final, but finally we are here," he said.
"I have to say during the season that Inter have been a great club, with a fantastic team, we all fight together, we all win together. It's amazing to be a part of this team."
