Oldham striker Matt Smith has capped a memorable season by being named as the League One Player of the Month for April.

Smith was the star of the Latics' run to the fifth round of the FA Cup, bagging a brace in the 3-2 win over Liverpool before scoring in both games as Everton needed a replay to see off Oldham.

But the towering 23-year-old striker's contribution in the league last month was arguably far more valuable as he drove Lee Johnson's side to League One safety with three goals in five matches.

Smith netted decisively in the vital 1-0 victories over Bury and Yeovil before opening the scoring in the 2-1 triumph over Crawley at Boundary Park that guaranteed survival.
