Siena's attempt to rehire coach Mario Beretta has fallen apart.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported Saturday that Marco Baroni will remain in charge of the Serie A club, which rejected a request from Beretta for a contract through next season.

Siena is last in Serie A with six points and only one win through 12 rounds.

Beretta has coached Siena twice before, helping the club avoid relegation in 2006-07 and 2007-08. He coached Lecce last season.
