Shirtliff frustrated by defeat

Bury caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff bemoaned his side's lack of cutting edge following their 3-0 defeat at Tranmere.

Two penalties from Andy Robinson and a Jake Cassidy strike kept Rovers sitting pretty at the top.

"I don't think the scoreline does justice to our effort but we can't concede goals like that," said Shirtliff. "We gave away two clear penalties and put in a useless bit of defending for their third goal.

"For the first half-hour there was only one team in the game and then we found ourselves 1-0 down and you look for a bit of character in the second half.

"We started where we left off with good possession, good control and no problems but with one hoof up the pitch they get another penalty and we are 2-0 down from nothing.

"It is so frustrating and we have got to do something about it. We need to start scoring when we are on top. We have put in some good performances but we need that cutting edge and we need it quickly. This is the worst defeat we have had but in the first half it may have been the best we have played. It is unbelievable how we have lost 3-0."
