LONDON (AP) Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey have been rewarded for strong starts to the Premier League season by earning recalls to the England squad for upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

England, which has won all six of its Group E matches, plays San Marino away and Switzerland at home and could qualify with two more victories.

Shelvey was called up almost three years after his only appearance for England - against San Marino. Shaw, who is over injury problems that bothered him last season, last played for England in November 2014.

Jamie Vardy retained his place among the strikers after being fined by his club, Leicester, for using racist language toward a Japanese man in a casino.
