Shakhtar beats Partizan 3-0 in Champions League
Shakhtar Donetsk scored three times within 16 minutes in the second half to beat Partizan Belgrade 3-0 Tuesday and go top of Group H of the Champions League.
The Ukrainian champions took the lead in the 52nd minute after a corner kick by Jadson found Taras Stepanenko, whose powerful close-range shot went in under the bar.
Jadson made it 2-0 in the 59th on a powerful low shot from within the penalty box after a pass by Darijo Srna.
Only minutes after he came in from the bench, Eduardo netted from close range in the 68th for 3-0.
Shakhtar leads Group H with 12 points from five games, with Arsenal and Braga both on nine with one game to go. Partizan has zero points and will finish last. In the last group stage round, Arsenal plays Partizan in London, while Shakhtar faces Braga at home.
''The first goal cut our play,'' Partizan captain Mladen Krstajic said. ''It is sad that we say goodbye to our fans with this debacle.''
Partizan opened the match with two good opportunities, but Shakhtar soon took control with Olexiy Gai's shot blocked by Serbia goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic in the 17th.
The Serbian champions came close to scoring in the 28th, but Krstajic's free kick on a slippery rain-drenched pitch was saved by Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.
The best chance in the first half for Shakhtar came in the 41st, but Stepanenko missed the target from close after a prefect cross by Srna.
Tomas Hubschman missed the match for Shakhtar through suspension, while 21-year-old Stepanenko came in for his European debut. Eduardo, who scored the winning 2-1 goal against his former club Arsenal in the previous round, started from the bench in favor of Douglas Costa.
