Captain Grant Holt put the Canaries ahead in the sixth minute following a quick free-kick from Chris Martin before Zak Whitbread doubled his side's advantage with a header from Wes Hoolahan's corner after 12 minutes. Holt added his second on the half-hour from the penalty spot after Martin was fouled and shortly afterwards Korey Smith curled in a fourth from outside the area. Simeon Jackson, who grabbed the goal at Portsmouth which clinched promotion back to the top flight, then headed in following an assist from debutant Steve Morison before half-time. Bradley Johnson, another summer signing, took just four minutes to grab his first goal for City, rifling home an excellent 20-yard effort after the break, and Aaron Wilbraham rounded off the scoring with a neat turn and finish.
