Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says, ''He can play in several positions but we're planning on a central position in attack for him initially.''

The Hamburg-born Choupo-Moting played for Hamburger SV and spent one season on loan Nuremburg before joining Mainz in 2011. He scored 20 goals and set up seven more in 74 Bundesliga games for Mainz.

Choupo-Moting played for Germany's youth sides up to under-21 level before opting for Cameroon's national side and played at the World Cup.
