Sampdoria has denied any dealings with Fiorentina for an eventual
loan of forward Antonio Cassano.
Italian media widely reported Saturday that the talented but
temperamental striker was set for a five-month loan deal with
Fiorentina.
However, Sampdoria issued a statement Sunday on its Web site
saying it "denies any dealing for an eventual (loan) of Antonio
Cassano to Fiorentina."
The ANSA news agency reported that Cassano apparently changed
his mind due to an outpouring of affection from Sampdoria fans and
players. He reportedly had already cleared out his locker in the
dressing room before changing his stance.
Cassano has clashed with Sampdoria coach Luigi Del Neri
lately.
