Sport's highest court has rejected an urgent request by Salzburg for reinstatement in the Champions League because it lost to Fenerbahce, which is implicated in a match-fixing case.
UEFA says it ''notes with satisfaction'' that the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday denied Salzburg's request for an interim ruling.
The CAS decision came just ahead of Fenerbahce hosting Arsenal in the first leg of the playoff round.
Fenerbahce beat Salzburg 4-2 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round.
The Austrian club protested to UEFA, which has allowed Fenerbahce to play while it appeals at CAS against a two-year ban from European competitions over a 2011 Turkish match-fixing case.
CAS began a two-day hearing Wednesday. It has promised a verdict next Wednesday, one day after Arsenal hosts the return match.
