Sagna stunned by ref outburst

The Gunners threw away a 4-0 lead to draw 4-4 at St James' Park on Saturday in a dramatic game which saw two penalties awarded to the home side. Sagna admits he confronted Dowd when he handed the Magpies a spot-kick against Laurent Koscielny, and the Frenchman was stunned by the official's reaction. "I asked him for an explanation and he was pretty hard on me," Sagna said in The Sun. "I won't repeat what words he came out with but they should never come from a referee." Sagna also defended team-mate Abou Diaby, who was handed a red card after pushing Newcastle midfielder Barton to the floor following a heavy challenge before raising his hands to captain Kevin Nolan. He added: "I've experienced the same problem (with Barton). I was the victim of several attacks and it gets in your head. "Abou reacted badly but the referee should have taken disciplinary measures." Saturday's startling collapse leaves Arsenal four points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United, and Sagna admits his side must be smarter if they want to bounce back. He said: "We will have to learn how to fight a bit more, tighten up a bit and be more intelligent."
