Bryan Ruiz cancelled out Bas Sibum's opener and Marc Janko put the visitors in front for the first time in the 40th minute. A Ruiz penalty gave them a two-goal cushion going into half-time, and that was re-established by Janko 11 minutes from time after Bjorn Vleminckx had pulled one back. FC Groningen missed the chance to move to within a point of the summit as they went down 1-0 at Roda JC. Arnaud Sutchuin-Djoum scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute as Roda claimed their first win in six matches. The result kept Groningen in third place and moved sixth-placed Roda to within two points of their opponents. Kolbeinn Sigthorsson grabbed a 90th-minute equaliser to earn AZ Alkmaar a 2-2 home draw with Heerenveen. Pontus Wernbloom had given AZ a seventh-minute advantage, but second-half goals from Mika Vayrynen and Daryl Janmaat looked to have given the visitors the points. Sigthorsson had other ideas, though, and earned his side a point that moves them into fourth place. Willem II fans finally saw their side claim a point at home this season but a draw with Excelsior did little to alleviate their struggles at the foot of the table. The Koning Willem II Stadion faithful had seen seven defeats from seven home matches before this evening and that looked like becoming eight when Kaj Ramsteijn put the Rotterdam side ahead six minutes into the second period. But Yevgeni Levchenko struck two minutes from time to give a little respite to the home support.
