Rovers swoop for Fernandez
Blackpool midfielder Liam Tomsett has signed a new one-year contract, with the option for another 12 months.
The Cumbrian came through Blackpool's youth system and spent last season on loan at Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Hyde, where he made 38 league appearances.
Speaking from the Tangerines' pre-season training camp in Portugal, he told the club's official website: "I know the gaffer didn't get much chance to have a look at me last season because I was on loan at Hyde, but I'm happy that he's giving me a chance.
"Hopefully I can impress him this season because I think it's a big one for me."
Meanwhile, Tiago Gomes has opted to join Cypriot side APOEL FC on a two-year deal following his release.
The 27-year-old, who made 25 league appearances for the Seasiders last season, ended the campaign on the sidelines following knee surgery.
Fernandez, who played for the Spanish giant's B team, becomes Rovers manager Paul Dickov's first summer signing and has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
Speaking about the 23-year-old, Dickov told reporters: "He's good on the ball, as you would expect playing for a club like Real Madrid, but he's not afraid to stick his foot in either.
"He has the potential to be a top, top player."
Meanwhile, Dickov confirmed former Manchester City manager and Hull assistant boss Brian Horton is his new number two, and Paul Gerrard, who worked with Dickov at Oldham, has replaced previous goalkeeping coach Lee Butler, who has left the club.
