The Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo has apologized for making an obscene gesture to fans who were upset after his team's loss.
A photo by the private Agencia Estado news service shows Ronaldo gesturing as he was leaving the stadium.
His Corinthians team lost 1-0 Wednesday to Paulista in the Sao Paulo state championship. The result left Corinthians in danger of not advancing to the semifinals.
Ronaldo says he acted as he did because he was deeply offended by something that happened in the parking lot. He did not say what it was.

Ronaldo is a three-time world player of the year. He insists that he has long admired Corinthians fans and he apologizes to any of them who were offended by his conduct.
