Real Madrid 3, Chivas Guadalajara 0

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Chivas of Guadalajara 3-0 Wednesday.

Ronaldo, who was frustrated for the first 45 minutes, scored three goals within a nine-minute span in the second half before 38,211 fans at Qualcomm Stadium.

Ronaldo had been stymied by goalkeeper Luis Michel in the first half. Michel stopped Ronaldo on two free kicks and a clear opportunity which he hit into the right side of the net in the 39th minute.

However, in the 73rd minute Ronaldo split two defenders, took a pass from Karim Benzema that he brought down with his left foot and kicked it with his right past Michel for the game's first goal.

Three minutes later Ronaldo converted a penalty kick when teammate Pepe was taken down by Chivas' Omar Areliano.

Ronaldo finished off his hat trick with a blast to the lower right hand corner of the net in the 82nd minute.

Everton 0, Philadelphia 1

Everton made a forgettable start to their tour of the United States as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Philadelphia Union in sweltering conditions.

Teenager Christian Hernandez scored the winner three minutes from the end and the visitors' evening was further soured when John Heitinga saw red in injury time for a second caution.

Newcastle 0, Sporting Kansas City 0

Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa was cleared of serious injury after he was taken from the field on a stretcher during his side's goalless draw with Sporting Kansas City.

Early reports, however, suggested he had only suffered a slight twist of his ankle with the club set to conduct further tests.

West Brom 3, Portland Timbers 2

Gabriel Tamas fired a spectacular last-gasp winner as West Brom hit back from 2-0 down to snatch a 3-2 victory over the Portland Timbers.

Goals from Eddie Johnson and Peter Lowry put the hosts in control after the opening 30 minutes, but Albion regrouped at half-time and looked a different team after the break.

James Morrison should have started the comeback on 63 minutes, only to fail from the penalty spot, but he atoned three minutes later with a precise finish past Jake Gleeson.

Somen Tchoyi then latched onto a chip from Ishmael Miller before beating Gleeson with a dipping strike, and the game looked to be drifting to a draw until Tamas struck in added time.

Bolton 2, Houston Dynamo 0

Bolton completed their three-game tour of the USA with a comfortable 2-0 win over Houston Dynamo.

Kevin Davies set up Ivan Klasnic for the game's opener on 31 minutes before the veteran completed the scoring with a tap-in following Martin Petrov's pin-point cross.
