Rodgers still chasing signings

Premier League newcomers the Swans have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, with goalkeeper Michel Vorm and forwards Danny Graham, Leroy Lita and Wayne Routledge among their captures. However, Rodgers is looking to bolster his resources further, insisting 'one or two' areas of his squad are still in need of strengthening. The manager's backline remains a priority, particularly after regular defender Alan Tate broke his leg in a freak golf buggy accident, leaving him facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. "We need to strengthen one or two areas and hopefully we can do that before the end of the day," Rodgers told Sky Sports News. "I'm disappointed for Alan with his injury but I always felt I wanted to bring in two players in that area to offer that support and cover. Alan's injury has made it a priority. Asked how many players he was looking to sign, the manager added: "Probably up to three. Three, maybe maximum four and then I'll be relatively happy." Defenders Rafik Halliche, Adrian Mariappa and Matthew Bates are among the players to have been linked with Swansea, but Rodgers refuses to name any targets. "There are lots of names. Since we've come to the Premier League I think we've been connected to every player in Europe, so that's nothing new," he said. "Like always we try to do our work behind the scenes. Once we've confirmed a signing then we'll make that news. We just want to bring in the best players." While Rodgers accepts Swansea do not pack the financial punch of some of their top-flight rivals, the manager insists the board have been supportive of his movements in the market so far. "The chairman and the board have been brilliant," he added. "They've always backed what I've wanted to do. "Our fans are fantastic, they're very realistic. They understand the financial climate that we're in will be different to every other club in this league. "It's our first year in as well, so we're not going to go stupid on it. "We just need to make sure we bring in players that will fit into the culture of the club and ensure we're strong for the remainder of the season."
