Rodgers hails McCarthy work
McCarthy, who has been in charge at Molineux for five years, is under pressure after seeing his team slide towards the edge of the relegation zone after losing five consecutive matches. Having seen their team come within one point of the drop last year, Wolves fans are concerned that they are set for another year of fraught nerves, and some have called for McCarthy to leave. But Rodgers, who takes his team to Molineux on the back of a four-match losing away streak, thinks the 52-year-old will be able to drag the club away from trouble. He said: "Every team has a run of games. He (McCarthy) has done a brilliant job there and had periods like this before and always come out strong. "Mick has done a wonderful job at Wolves in his time there in the Championship and taken them through. "There has been great developments there both on and off the field. "He understands like us all that it's very difficult in the Premier League." Swansea go in to the match on the back of a poor performance at Norwich where they conceded in the first minute before going on to lose 3-1 against their fellow Premier League newcomers. A difficult run of fixtures has seen the Welsh side fail to win on the road so far this season, meaning they are still searching for their first top-flight away win in 29 years. Although Rodgers expects a tough match against a team he thinks is blessed with talent, the former Watford boss has been pleased with the way his squad have responded to last week's defeat in training and hopes they can take that in to Saturday's game. Rodgers said: "We never started at Norwich last week, but the spirit in the group has been terrific this week. Last week came on the back of the international break which wasn't great for lots of teams and we weren't as cohesive as normal. "But we've had a good week's training and the players have been outstanding. The spirit is strong and we hope to go into Saturday's game on a positive note. "You go to Wolves at any time and it's always a difficult game. "Kevin Doyle is an established talent and player. He has shown over a number of years his talents as a Premier League player and Matt Jarvis was not so long ago involved in the England squad "They have some very good players but we focus on ourselves and look to bring our A-game." Rodgers may be tempted to shuffle his back four in light of last week's poor defensive showing at Carrow Road. The Swans boss has been short on options at the back since Alan Tate broke his leg, and Steven Caulker injured his knee against Arsenal. He has received a boost in that area after finally completing the signing of Vangelis Moras from Bologna on a free transfer. The Greece defender had been awaiting clearance from the Italian Football Federation before signing his short-term contract at the Liberty Stadium, and he may now be given his first start after being an unused substitute at Carrow Road last week. "Vangelis comes in with good experience. He's played the last four seasons in Serie A and is an international player," Rodgers said. "I watched him in training for a week or so and felt if we could get him up to speed he'd be a good asset for us. So far he's proved that. "He's adapted excellently to our training and he is getting better with every reserve game. He's in the squad and available for selection."
