Riise relishing return to Prem
The 30-year-old former Liverpool left-back returned to English football in July after a three-year spell with Serie A outfit Roma. Prior to his move to Italy, Riise enjoyed a long and fruitful spell at Anfield and the Norway international admits he is delighted to have returned to England. "I'm a Fulham player now and it was an easy decision," he said. "I enjoyed my time in Italy. We fought for some titles and didn't get there in the end, but I needed that experience for my footballing career. "I've been quite lucky to play in France, England and Italy now so I am enjoying it, but England is my type of football." While England may be his kind of football, it seems Fulham is his kind of club. Riise almost joined the Cottagers from Monaco a decade ago but plumped for a move to Liverpool rather than Jean Tigana's side. The full-back believes it was impossible to turn down the opportunity to link up with the Reds at the time, but now has his heart set on success with Fulham. "I spent seven years at Liverpool so it is going to be strange to play against them but I look forward to going back to Anfield," he said. "It will be my first time back there and hopefully I get a good reception there. "But I am a Fulham player now and I am going to do my best and try to score some goals for my team. "If it is against Manchester United or Liverpool it doesn't matter, I'm just going to do my job." Riise's arrival increases the Norwegian contingent at Craven Cottage, where he links up with brother Bjorn Helge and centre-back Brede Hangeland. The 30-year-old came up against the pair in Fulham's 2009-10 Europa League campaign while at Roma and admits it is special to be able to play alongside them now. "It was the first time my brother and I played against each other at a high level so it was a big experience for both of us," he said. "I managed to score against Fulham - my brother likes that one - and we enjoyed it, but now we can finally play together in a club. "Brede and I play next to each other in the national team and hopefully we can do the same here at Fulham. "It can only help both Fulham and the national team that we can play together so having three Norwegians at the same club is going to be nice and we're going to enjoy it." Riise made his Fulham debut as they secured safe passage to the third qualifying round of the Europa League with a 4-0 defeat of Crusaders at Craven Cottage. The competition is held in high regard by the Londoners after they finished runners-up in the 2010 edition and Riise hopes for similar success this season, as well as another impressive campaign in the Barclays Premier League. "Two years ago Fulham reached a major European final, which was a great achievement for them," he said. "I am here to help improve the team and look to improve our finishing position in the league. "Last year they came eighth after a tricky start so we always look to improve. "If we can improve on that then we've had a good season and we will see where we go in the Europa League."
