Redknapp ridicules relegation idea
The manager of English soccer club Tottenham says the idea of scrapping relegation from the Premier League is ''scandalous.''
League Managers' Association chief executive Richard Bevan claimed on Monday that several overseas-owned clubs wanted to introduce a closed league.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says that ''you can't have too many foreign owners coming in here wanting to change our game.''
But with half of the league's 20 teams now foreign-owned, Redknapp predicts they will want to take the games to their home countries in the future.
A widely opposed Premier League proposal to play games abroad was dropped three years ago. But popular Asian tours by Manchester United and Liverpool have proved just how lucrative playing abroad can be.
