Redknapp laughs off Stoke criticism

Stoke are sometimes criticised for their approach to game, in particular their use of the long throw but, considering the amount of goals it has set up over the last two seasons, Redknapp finds the criticism laughable. He said: "Tony (Pulis) has just used what he had, he's got Rory Delap with that throw-in. "He'd be silly to say 'look, sorry, it's not nice, other people don't like it. We're getting slagged off Rory, so don't throw it into their box' and to Ryan Shawcross, 'don't head it in the back of their goal'. "He's not going to do that, is he? He's going to keep playing to his strengths - and that is a massive strength. It's so difficult to defend against. We've been working on defending them in training but it's hard to stop." Tottenham's task on Saturday has been made tougher by the loss of Jermain Defoe, who picked up a grade-two tear to his hamstring during training on Friday to join Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Jermaine Jenas, Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon and David Bentley in the treatment room. Redknapp said: "I dread the physio ringing me. Every time he rings up or he walks in the office in the morning to give me a report I fear the worst, it's every day. It's just one day after the other." Kyle Walker fractured his arm in a training game this week and Danny Rose has suffered knee ligament damage, meaning Redknapp will have youngsters on the bench at the Britannia Stadium. As for Defoe, Redknapp is refusing to put a timescale on his return. "You never know with hamstrings and those injuries, you just can't tell," he said. The Spurs boss cannot name a return date for Aaron Lennon either and believes Fabio Capello would need to see the winger in club action before taking him to the World Cup in the summer. "I wouldn't stop him going if he was fit, but I think Capello will want to see him back playing before he puts him in the squad," Redknapp said. "I could sit here and say 'Well, he's going to be back in three or weeks', I could have said that 14 weeks ago. "So I can't sit here and put a date on when he's going to be fit, no-one knows."
