Real Madrid are waiting to hear whether Gonzalo Higuain needs to go undergo an operation to correct his back problem.
The Argentina international is struggling with the injury and it is yet to be decided whether he will require surgery or not.
He is currently in his homeland undergoing medical tests, with Real anxiously waiting on the results.
The Spanish giants have already been informed that it is highly likely Higuain will need to have an operation in order to make a full recovery.
That would put the prolific frontman out of action for some time, a situation Real are keen to avoid.
There are, however, no contingency plans in place should that outcome arise, with general director Jorge Valdano insisting that there will be no new arrivals in January.
"In principle, there will be no-one, but we will take the opportunity to snap up a player should it occur, although we are not interested," he said.
"There has been no mention of an addition for Higuain, as we are uncertain over his injury. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon."
