Arsenal has confirmed that midfielder Aaron Ramsey broke two bones in his leg against Stoke on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Welsh international was injured in a tackle by Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross, who was sent off in the Premier League match at Britannia Stadium.

Arsenal issued a statement Sunday, saying Ramsey fractured the tibia and fibula in his right leg and had surgery on Saturday evening after Arsenal's 3-1 victory. The club ruled Ramsey out for the rest of the season.

Arsenal said the operation was a success but it is too soon to state an exact time-scale for recovery.
