Racing up to second in Argentina

Racing Club moved up to second in the Apertura Championship despite only drawing 0-0 at San Martin San Juan.

La Academia was eyeing the chance to close the gap on leader Boca Juniors - albeit having played a game more than their rival - but instead was held at San Martin and had to settle for a point.

That point takes Racing level on points with Atletico Rafaela in second, ahead on goal difference but having played a game more.

Independiente moved within two points of seventh-placed Godoy Cruz with a 2-1 win in their meeting at the Estadio Libertadores de America.

Leonel Nunez put the home side in front four minutes into the second period before Ruben Ramirez (63) drew Godoy Cruz level. The winner came from substitute Marco Perez in the last minute.

San Lorenzo are just behind Independiente, also on 11 points, thanks to a 1-0 win over Banfield secured by Juan Salgueiro's 72nd-minute goal.

The day's other game between Union Santa Fe and All Boys finished 1-1. Union, playing at home, fell behind to a Fernando Sanchez goal in the eighth minute but struck level through Paulo Rosales' 32nd-minute penalty.
