Fabio Quagliarella helped Juventus polish off a pretty memorable week with another win.
Quagliarella scored in the first half to lead Juventus past Chivas Guadalajara 1-0 on Thursday night in the World Football Challenge.
His goal in the 12th minute helped Juventus claim its second shutout in three nights in the event. The Italian club team beat Club America 1-0 on Tuesday night in New York, and finished the challenge with a 2-1 record.
''Coming to the United States and playing here could be risky, because you're playing against some teams that are advanced in preparation,'' Juventus coach Antonio Conte said. ''But the good thing is you're playing against some solid competition ... with respect to, say, playing some of the youth sides that we would normally train against playing in Italy.''
Jorge Mora's free kick in the 80th minute rang the left post for Chivas, which remained winless and scoreless in the series of exhibitions on North American soil. Chivas was beaten 3-0 by Real Madrid on July 20 and faces FC Barcelona on Aug. 3 in Miami.
''As far as the results, we haven't done very well,'' Chivas coach Jose Luis Real said.
Marco Storari made five saves for Juventus. Luis Michel stopped two shots for Chivas.
Quagliarella took advantage of a miscue by Chivas defender Jonny Magallon to score the game's only goal.
While trying to make a play on Quagliarella from the right side of the box, Magallon slipped to the turf. That gave Quagliarella an opening, and the forward blasted a right-footed shot into the left corner of the net.
Simone Pepe had a few chances to make it a two-goal game later in the half, but came up empty.
He took a long pass in the 25th minute on the right flank but Michel hustled out to meet him there and wound up blocking the shot with his face, and play briefly stopped to tend to him. Roughly 12 minutes later, Pepe shook a Chivas defender with a nifty move along the right flank, but his left-footed shot went into the right side of the net.
Three members of Mexico's Under-17 World Cup championship team - Carlos Fierro, Giovanny Casillas and Jose Pablo Tostado - made their debuts for Chivas roughly 15 minutes into the second half.
''We were waiting for the right moment'' to play them, Real said. ''I'm very happy with the way they played today. I'm very happy with the way the team played today. But, of course, we know that we (didn't) win, and I think we could have tied the game.''
