Pulis focused on cup run

Pulis accepts that knockout competitions represent the Potters' only realistic chances of winning silverware and he is keen to bring glory to the Britannia Stadium. Pulis sampled the excitement a good run can generate as he guided his side to the FA Cup final last season and, while Premier League survival remains all important, he wants more of it. Stoke take on Liverpool at home for a place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals tomorrow. Pulis said: "I don't think our football club will win the Barclays Premier League in the next few years. "So our biggest aim is to stay in the league, that's our priority, but what we also want to do is try to do well in the cup competitions. "That includes the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carling Cup. "We had a great time last year, going to Wembley, it was absolutely fantastic. It galvanised everybody, it galvanised the city, it galvanised the club. "So we will do our best in all the cup competitions. "We've got a tough game against Liverpool, but we'll pick a team to try to win that game. We'll do our damnedest, that's what we are trying to achieve." Stoke have made a solid start in the Premier League and currently sit ninth but, after the weekend loss to Arsenal, Pulis will not lose sight of his main objective. He added: "Premier League status is vital for us. "Have a look at West Ham and other clubs like that. There are bigger clubs than Stoke City who have been relegated. "So we won't take our foot off the pedal or take anything for granted." Stoke have not lost in nine Premier League, Europa League or Carling Cup games at home this season. That run includes a 1-0 victory over Liverpool early in September and Pulis hopes his side's famously vocal fans will be out in good number and full voice to help engineer a repeat. The Welshman told the club's website, www.stokecityfc.com: "Our home record is a proud one and due in no small measure to the tremendous backing we've had from our supporters. "We will have our work cut out, but I am sure that our fans will raise their game like the players will have to raise theirs if we are to get the right result. "There will be a tremendous atmosphere for another cup game here, but I hope a few more will decide come along to lend their support because we'll need it. "The very mention of Liverpool being in town should encourage them to come along."
