PSG plays down Cristiano Ronaldo rumor

Paris St Germain chairman Nasser el-Khelaifi has sought to play down rumors linking his club with a record-breaking approach for Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speculation in Italy, which has since been repeated in France, has suggested that PSG see Ronaldo as the next part of their ambitious project - with a €100million (£80.3m) package being pieced together.

It has also been claimed that PSG are keen to have Ronaldo playing under his Real boss Jose Mourinho at Parc des Princes.

Ronaldo hinted earlier in the season that he could be lured away from the Bernabeu, claiming that he was not entirely happy in the Spanish capital.

Real are, however, in the process of trying to tie him down on fresh terms.

Ronaldo has gone quiet on the matter for the time being, and PSG have now offered an official response to the reports that they could make a move in January.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player," said El-Khelaifi.

"I have not contacted his club, and no-one has contacted me about him."
