Prem games off, Reds v Spurs doubt
Saturday's Premier League games at Fulham and Burnley are off,
while the clash between Liverpool and Tottenham on Sunday is in
serious doubt.
While the pitch at Anfield is believed to be playable, it is
thought the surrounding area of the stadium is unsafe for fans
making their way into the ground.
A Liverpool spokesman said: "We will make an announcement as
soon as the Premier League come back to us."
The game could prove to be the top flight's biggest casualty
of the weekend, with the majority of fixtures expected to go ahead.
Fulham's home game against struggling Portsmouth and
Burnley's clash with Stoke at Turf Moor have been confirmed as the
two games in the Premier League postponed so far.
A statement on the Fulham website read: "The club can confirm
that Saturday's Premier League fixture against Portsmouth at the
Cottage has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions
which are not expected to improve over the next 24 hours.
"The safety of supporters is of paramount importance to the
club and following an inspection of the areas surrounding Craven
Cottage on Friday morning it was deemed unsafe for fans to travel.
"The club can confirm that all tickets for Saturday's game
will be valid for the re-arranged fixture date which will be
announced in due course."
Wigan are confident Saturday's match against Aston Villa at
the DW Stadium will go ahead unless the weather conditions take a
significant turn for the worse.
There had been concerns for the safety of fans but after an
inspection of the ground and surrounding areas, stadium officials
have deemed the conditions safe, with just one car park closed.
Wigan football secretary Stuart Hayton said: "The stadium
manager and his team have worked tirelessly to get the surroundings
in a fit state for Saturday.
"Only freak weather between now and Saturday can prevent this
game from going ahead."
The postponement of Saturday's Championship fixtures between
Middlesbrough and Swansea at the Riverside and QPR and Plymouth
Argyle at Loftus Road mean there are only four fixtures remaining
in English football's second tier.
