Power works behind schedule ahead of Brazil's WCup

Brazil's electricity regulator says that power distribution works in most of the cities that will host next year's World Cup are behind schedule, but he rules out the danger of outages during the tournament.

The regulator known as Aneel says in a report that of the 12 World Cup host cities, only Fortaleza and Recife are on schedule.

Aneel's report says that ''most of the delays do not represent risk of power shortages during the 2014 World Cup'' and that power distribution companies will conclude their work on time if they ''accelerate the installation of electricity networks and substations.''

Aneel's general director, Nelson Hubner tells reporters ''there is no chance of blackouts in the host cities, not even in Porto Alegre where 96 percent of the work is behind schedule.''
