The midfielder, who broke into Villa's first team in the autumn, has signed on at Fratton Park until the end of the season. Gerard Houllier hopes the 22-year-old, who has twice battled back from cruciate ligament injuries, will toughen up in the Championship before returning in the summer to fight for a place. Houllier told the club website: "Jonathan has competed very well in the games he has played and this loan move will greatly assist in his career development." Hogg recently signed a new Villa contract keeping him at the club until 2013.
