Poland coach Waldemar Fornalik was fired Wednesday following his team's 2-0 loss to England in a World Cup qualifying match.

Poland lost to England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, giving the English a spot in next year's tournament in Brazil. Poland lost its chance to qualify after losing to Ukraine last week.

Polish football association president Zbigniew Boniek said a new coach will be hired in two weeks. His task will be to qualify for the 2016 European Championship in France.

Boniek said the new coach has to be ''ambitious,'' while his nationality was of lesser importance.

He said he met with Fornalik early Wednesday for a ''nice friendly talk'' to discuss Poland's recent showing and decided the coach had to go. He said Fornalik, who had spent more than one year in the job, was not planning to resign.
