Pearce: Future talks can wait

Pearce: Future talks can wait

Alex Pearce is reluctant to discuss his future as Reading continue with their bid to secure Premier League survival.

The highly-rated centre-half has been locked in contract talks for much of the 2012/13 campaign, with the Royals having offered him what they believe to be attractive terms.

Pearce is yet to put pen to paper, though, and has been linked with a summer move away from the Madejski Stadium - with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is aware of the speculation, but claims preserving Reading's top-flight status is of more importance at present than extension talks.

He told the Reading Post: "As far as that goes, all I am thinking about is keeping Reading in the Premier League. That is my one goal. Everything else will take care of itself.

"Who knows what the future holds?

"Hopefully we can keep Reading in the Premier League. I'm not thinking about in a year's time or anything like that.

"All I'm thinking about is the next 10 games and staying in this league.

"We were written off at the start of the season. No-one expects us to stay up and we will take that on board and look to exploit it."
