Park rules out Korea U-turn
Manchester United midfielder Park and Vancouver Whitecaps' former Tottenham defender Lee Young-pyo both confirmed their retirement following last year's Asian Cup tournament.
However, a shock 2-1 defeat to Lebanon last November has left his country's hopes of reaching for the finals in Brazil on a knife-edge.
South Korea are currently level on points at the top of Asia Group B with Lebanon going into the final round of matches on February 29.
Should Korea lose or draw at home with Kuwait and Lebanon beat the United Arab Emirates, who have yet to pick up a point, then new coach Choi Kang-hee's side will not be heading to Brazil.
Such fears have prompted fans to implore Park to again pull on the national shirt.
Park, though, has no such intention as he said: "If I had thoughts to return I would have never made the retirement announcement.
"I don't think the national team could overcome the difficult situation with just a player like me returning to the team.
"Those reports that our team is in crisis may affect players, but if players perform like they have been doing and concentrate, there will be a good result.
"The national team is better than Kuwait, so I just hope players don't think too much on the match."
Park, meanwhile, has offered some soothing words of advice to his namesake at Arsenal in striker Chu-young.
The 26-year-old national team captain joined the Gunners from Monaco at the end of August, but only made his Premier League debut in the 2-1 defeat to United on Sunday as an 84th-minute substitute.
Ji-sung has admitted to speaking with Chu-young after the game, giving him the benefit of his years in England.
Speaking to Korean daily Ilgan Sports, Park said: "Chu-young has amassed experience from an early age and it's not the first time he has played in Europe, so I believe he knows what to do.
"I think he knows that committing his duty faithfully and not feeling discouraged is an important thing."
The 30-year-old has also admitted to disappointment he has not made as big an impact with United as he would have liked this season.
Despite making 20 appearances so far, Park has only scored two goals, and appears poised to fall short of the target of 10 he set himself at the start of the campaign.
Park added: "It feels bad that I have only scored two since I had scored five goals by this time last season.
"But since there is the second half of the season, you never know until the end."
