Pardew demands a strong finish
The Magpies believe they need just one more win from their remaining six games to assure themselves of a second season in the Premier League. They are currently ninth in the table, but still only seven points clear of the drop zone with champions-elect Manchester United due at St James' Park on Tuesday evening. However, although their remaining fixtures also include trips to Liverpool and Chelsea, they have home games against Birmingham and West Brom to come. But Pardew, who will hope to significantly strengthen his squad during the summer armed with the proceeds of Andy Carroll's £35million January departure for Anfield, will further assess the character of his current crop of players from how they approach the run-in. He said: "It's about how you finish. Are you winners when it is perhaps not life and death to win that particular fixture? Can you still produce that winning performance, because that's what you want. "For me being manager of Newcastle, a club of this size, we should expect to win every game, and that's what I want to see reflected in the players. We've got a little period of the season to go to see if that's true."
