Officials want to avoid future strike

BY foxsports • October 10, 2011

The president of Italy's soccer federation wants more labor talks to avoid another strike by players in the country's top league.

The season began two weeks late, shortly after players and owners signed a temporary collective contract that will expire June 30.

The agreement stipulated the sides would reach a deal over the following 30 days on the last remaining conflict - the rights of players to train with their first team.

But federation president Giancarlo Abete tells state radio that the sides haven't even met over the last month. He wants the sides to start working immediately to ''avoid having another scene like the one we just saw.''
