Colombian authorities are examining the books of Independiente Santa Fe, looking for evidence the football club is being used for money laundering by drug cartels and organized crime.

German Gomez, a spokesman for Colombia's attorney general, said on Thursday that judicial officials entered the club's office and ''are reviewing accounting practices and this type of thing.''

Under orders from the national attorney general, six investigators are combing through club records dating to 2002. Santa Fe is a leading Colombian club and has reached the final 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, South America's No. 2 club tournament.
