No contact over Coyle, insist Clarets

Burnley insist they have not been approached by Lancashire rivals Bolton regarding Owen Coyle, who is now favourite to succeed Gary Megson.

Former Wanderers forward Coyle has already distanced himself from the position at his former club and a Burnley spokesman told BBC Radio Lancashire: "There has been no discussion about our manager's future and no contact from Bolton regarding Owen Coyle."

That will not stop speculation continuing this weekend, although both clubs will be attempting to focus on FA Cup third round ties. Burnley travel to face the MK Dons and Bolton take on Lincoln at the Reebok Stadium.

With Premier League survival a priority, Coyle admits he will bring in some fringe players against the League One side.

"There will be a number of changes. We'll look to freshen it up and someone will get an opportunity," said the Scot.

"There are good players waiting in the wings and it is up to them, when they come in, to wear the jersey with pride and show the quality which brought them to the club in the first place.

"We'll probably bring in some of the younger players we signed in the summer. The reason we paid £250,000-£300,000 is because, for that, you don't get ready-made players for the Premier League.

"We spent that money on young players we felt could develop. Some of them played in the Carling Cup earlier in the season and we will look to have a freshness to our team as enforced changes have to be made."

Bolton caretaker manager Chris Evans will make sure complacency does not set in against Lincoln, a side managed by former Celtic, Blackburn and Norwich striker Chris Sutton. He said: "The FA Cup is held dear to all football people. It is not any different here. We will be professional in our approach and give Lincoln all the respect they deserve.

"It is our intention to go quietly about our business to make sure there is as little disruption as possible. We will be well prepared so we give ourselves every opportunity to make progress in the cup."
