Joseph Ngwenya scored his second goal in the 85th minute to give the Houston Dynamo a 2-1 win over Mexican club Pachuca on Thursday in the first game of SuperLiga's Group A.
Ngwenya of Zimbabwe opened the scoring for the Dynamo in the 19th minute after gaining possession of a loose ball. Damian Manso equalized in the 51st, firing through Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall's hands and inside the post.
Ngwenya's header from the left of the box off a Corey Ashe free kick made it just inside the near post to give Houston a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute and a leg up toward advancing to the knockout round of the tournament for North American club teams.
