DORTMUND, Germany (AP) Newcomer Roman Buerki has been picked over veteran Roman Weidenfeller as Borussia Dortmund's starting goalkeeper in the Bundesliga.

The decision was announced by new coach Thomas Tuchel on Friday, one day before Dortmund's season opener against Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Buerki, a Swiss, arrived in the offseason from relegated Freiburg. Tuchel would not say if Buerki would also play in other competitions.

Weidenfeller had occasionally lost his place last season to Mitch Langerak, who has since left the club for Stuttgart.
