New arrivals please Adkins

Nigel Adkins has expressed his delight at the early summer transfer business he has been able to carry out at Reading.

The Royals have welcomed three new arrivals into their ranks - and all arrive with considerable pedigree.

England left-back Wayne Bridge will help to bolster the defensive ranks, Danny Williams is a USA international who will bring steel to the midfield and Dutch forward Royston Drenthe adds creativity and experience in the final third.

There is the promise of more to come at the Madejski Stadium, but Adkins feels those deals already wrapped up will considerably aid his quest to bounce Reading back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He said in the Reading Post: "They are three excellent additions and we've got Alex Pearce as well who's just signed a new contract.

"We've got excellent players here at Reading and now we've brought in three new characteristics in different positions. They will enhance what we've got.

"The club has invested well so far this summer.

"A team that has just been relegated sometimes finds it challenging, but towards the end of last season there was a change in feel-good factor even through results didn't go our way. There is a positivity around the place, and that's good to see."
