Myhill set to get Baggies chance
Boaz Myhill will instead be given a chance to impress in what will be his first Premier League start of the season following his summer transfer from Hull. Carson has come in for some criticism in recent weeks after his blunder against Fulham on January 5 led to the opening goal in a 3-0 defeat. Myhill was named in the starting line-up for last weekend's FA Cup third-round tie against Reading. And although the Baggies were beaten 1-0, the former Hull player did enough to keep his place in the side this weekend, with Carson also handing the captain's armband over to Chris Brunt. "I've decided I'm going to give Boaz Myhill a chance on Saturday," Di Matteo said. "I thought he did well on Saturday in the cup and he will be in goal. "Scott is very disappointed. He is club captain as well and it is the first time he has been left out. "But it is something he needs to get through, put his head down and work himself up again. "It was a difficult decision but I needed to give Boaz a chance. He's worked hard in training, he played well in the cup and he did enough to convince me he deserves a chance. "Only time will tell if Scott comes back stronger for it, but he's still a young boy and I'm sure he will get through it. "But when someone deserves a chance, I'll give them the opportunity." Myhill will be hoping he can produce a performance which will prevent West Brom form slipping to their sixth successive defeat in the league. That run has left Albion just one point above the drop zone, and they are likely to face a buoyant Blackpool on Saturday following their midweek victory over Liverpool. Ian Holloway's men have already got the better of West Brom this season, claiming a 2-1 victory at Bloomfield Road in November which saw both Pablo Ibanez and Gonzalo Jara sent off in the first half for the visitors. And Di Matteo admits the result and the dismissals continue to rankle. "That night still nags me," he said on the club's official website, www.wba.co.uk. "It was a really strange game and the referee had a big hand in making it a strange game. "I have never seen anything like it. The nine men battled really hard and were very brave to stay in the game as long as possible, and have a chance until the dying seconds to get a point out of it. "It burst our bubble a little bit, which was unfortunate. It would be nice to get one back on them."
