Everton manager David Moyes has moved to end talk of captain Phil Neville joining Tottenham.

Reports on Tuesday linked Neville with a move to north London, with Spurs manager Harry Redknapp later acknowledging his admiration of the player but admitting any switch would be "difficult".

Moyes has now dismissed the notion of the 33-year-old leaving Goodison Park, telling his club's official website: "I spoke with Harry Redknapp briefly before the transfer window opened.

(Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy and (Everton chairman) Bill (Kenwright) had an even briefer conversation at our recent game against Spurs and mutually agreed that this would go no further.

"At no time was any offer made - nor would one have been welcomed. Phil Neville is our captain and is an important part of the Everton set-up."

Neville joined Everton from Manchester United in August 2005 and has made 224 appearances for them since, taking over the captaincy in 2007.
