Everton boss David Moyes admits that financial constraints at the club will limit him to loan signings only in the January transfer window.

The Toffees boss is keen to bolster his numbers in the New Year, with the Goodison Park outfit still struggling under the weight of an ongoing injury crisis.

United States international Landon Donovan is set to join on a short-term deal from the LA Galaxy, once he has been granted a work permit, but Moyes has revealed that there may be more fresh faces to come.

"The situation hasn't changed regarding finance," Moyes said.

"But I feel we need to get players in. I have got one and I'm hoping to get another two or three.

"I'm working around the clock to see who I can bring in on loan. I would like to bring in a centre-half if possible.

"That's the priority for us but it's a little bit harder at the moment finding anything else. I feel as if I can't keep waiting on injured players to return.

"There are not a lot of loan opportunities but I have two or three I might be able to get.

"There are always one or two people who want to move players out. You don't get a club's best players on loan in January. You don't get their best players on loan at any time. So we're daft in thinking that.

"We hope to add players who will help us. If they can help us win a couple of games here and there then they will be doing their job."

Moyes may also need to delve into the market for a new striker, as fit-again frontman Aiyegbeni Yakubu is set to head off for the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria in the New Year.

He said: "He may need those games to help us. It might help us if goes and gets another two or three games. It might well bring him on.

"The Yak had an injury and now he's fit but not match fit. I think his injury is going to take a period of time for him to get over.

"He is still lacking in general match sharpness but he has shown signs in the game he has come on."
