Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he has no interest in signing Steven Gerrard if he fails to agree a new deal at Liverpool.

Gerrard raised question marks over his future last month when he revealed he could leave Liverpool when his contract expires next June.

Liverpool skipper Gerrard has yet to receive an offer of a new deal, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers remains confident the 34-year-old will remain at Anfield.

Mourinho, who twice tried to sign Gerrard before during his first spell in charge of Chelsea, insists he would not be in the market this time if Gerrard does become available at the end of the season.

Asked if he would be interested in signing Gerrard next summer, Mourinho said: "No. "How long can he still play? I don't know."

Also asked whether he had any regrets about failing to land Gerrard in his first spell at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho added: "No. It was a long time ago."

Mourinho also admitted he is not surprised to see Liverpool struggling to replicate the form of last season when they went so close to winning the Premier League.

Liverpool go into Saturday's clash with Chelsea 12 points behind the leaders with another defeat all but ruling them out of the title chase this season and Mourinho knows how hard it is to mount a title challenge.

"In the Premier League I'm not surprised with anything. Every match is difficult," noted Mourinho.

"Obviously they lost a very good player in Luis Suarez, and when you lose good players you lose something.

"But they have fantastic funds to invest in a new squad. They improved it a lot, buying so many players. They're fighting for the title the same as we are."
