Rotherham are hopeful of making at least one loan signing before the weekend clash with Oxford.
The Millers, who have endured a stuttering start to the League Two campaign, are on the look-out for a striker and a left-back and manager Steve Evans has spent the last two days in meetings trying to get deals done.
Assistant Paul Raynor said: "We are desperately trying to improve the squad, but players are wanted by their parent club and we have to work long and hard.
"There is no point adding to the squad for the sake of it. They have to be players that are going to go into the team and improve us. It's not about numbers, it's about quality.
"We are looking to add a couple of players, but these things take time. We are hopeful we might be able to bring someone in for the weekend."
