Rotherham have signed Luke Rooney on an emergency loan deal from Swindon, subject to Football League ratification.

The winger will remain at the New York Stadium until January 5 and provides cover for injured duo Lionel Ainsworth and Jamie Devitt, who has returned to his parent club Hull.

Millers boss Steve Evans told the club's official website: "Losing Jamie Devitt was a blow because he had settled in so quickly and is a top player for League Two.

"We had to move quickly to find a top-class replacement and we have certainly done that with Luke Rooney.

"Every time I have seen the lad play he has been excellent and I have every faith our supporters will love this lad."

Rooney made 24 appearances as he helped Swindon to promotion last season, but was sent on loan to Burton at the beginning of this campaign.
