Milan deny Leonardo departure
Serie A giants AC Milan have issued a statement denying reports
that coach Leonardo has quit his role with the San Siro outfit.
Speculation was rife on Friday morning that the Brazilian
boss had torn up his contract.
However, Milan later released a statement confirming Leonardo
remains in charge.
A statement on the Milan website read: "In reference to the
news that was published today regarding an alleged contract
cancellation, Milan coach Leonardo stresses that this must be
considered as completely unfounded."
Leonardo took over the reins at Milan last summer following
the departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Chelsea and has had a mixed
first season in charge.
They are four points off Serie A leaders Roma after just one
victory in their past five league games, while they were dumped out
of the Champions League at the last-16 stage following a 4-0
second-leg defeat at Manchester United.
Leonardo is under contract at the San Siro until 2011 and the
fans remain very much on their young manager's side.
Reports suggest the 40-year-old is keen to return to Brazil,
with some suggesting he has been earmarked to take over the Brazil
squad after the World Cup.
