AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri refused to criticise his players after seeing their hopes of a domestic double ended by Palermo.
The Rossoneri lost 2-1 to Palermo on Tuesday in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final to go out 4-3 on aggregate following a stormy clash that saw both sides end the game with 10 men.
The sides had drawn 2-2 in the first leg at the San Siro and Giulio Migliaccio headed the hosts ahead on the night after a goalless first half before Milan had Mark van Bommel dismissed for giving away a penalty that Bovo converted.
Palermo were then reduced to 10 men themselves as Bovo saw red for a poor tackle on Alexandre Pato but they held on despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late goal.
Allegri was disappointed to see his newly-crowned Serie A champions miss out on a place in the final, but says they have earned the right to celebrate their title success when Cagliari visit the San Siro this weekend.
"We have nothing to reproach ourselves for," Allegri told the club website.
"The lads did very well, but our finishing was not up to par. We tried right until the end, but a couple of breaks didn't go our way.
"We're now going to celebrate in Milan on Saturday.
"Hopefully there will be a party atmosphere at the San Siro and it will be a great night.
"It's a pity about the elimination, but the lads have had a great Serie A campaign, we won the Scudetto and therefore the team deserves to celebrate."
