Argentine striker Emanuel Villa scored two goals, including the
winner, as Cruz Azul beat Toluca 3-2 on Sunday for its third
consecutive victory.
Monterrey wasted a chance to get a share of the competition
lead with Chivas after a 1-1 draw against Puebla in another Sunday
match.
Villa put Cruz Azul ahead in the 16th minute and broke a 2-2
draw in the 81st, assisted on each goal by fellow Argentine
Maximiliano Biancucchi. Biancucchi also scored in the 60th minute.
Cruz Azul, after a slow start, now has 17 points after 10
rounds and is third in Group 3 behind Pumas (17) and Santos (21).
Toluca, a nine-time champion, has 11 points.
Chilean striker Hector Mancilla scored in the 27th minute and
Antonio Naelson scored in the 36th for Toluca, which had been
unbeaten in its previous 26 home games.
Naelson missed a penalty that would have given the Red
Devil's the lead before Villa scored the match winner.
"It is my fault ... this loss is 99 percent my fault,"
Naelson said.
In Puebla, Orlando Rincon had an own goal in the 47th minute
but American Herculez Gomez came off the bench to level it in the
65th on a cross from Sergio Rosas.
It was Gomez' sixth goal of his first season in Mexico.
