Metzelder to stay in Madrid; Germany spot unlikely

Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder is resigned to seeing out his contract at the Spanish club even if his lack of playing time will cost him a spot with Germany at next year's World Cup.

Metzelder called his two-plus seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu "complicated" and the center back said he doesn't expect Madrid to renew his contract when it expires in June.

The 29-year-old Metzelder says his chances of making Germany's team are limited since he doesn't believe he fits into Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini's plans. Metzelder also said he thinks teams "will not pay a transfer fee in January for a player that will be free five months later."

Metzelder has made 47 appearances for Germany but none since last year's European Championship.
