Germany defender Per Mertesacker is down with the flu and may miss the upcoming friendlies against Italy and England.
The German football federation says it remains open whether the Arsenal defender, who missed Sunday's Premier League game at Manchester United, will join the team at a later date.
The Germany squad is gathering in Munich on Monday to prepare for Friday's game against Italy in Milan and against England four days later at Wembley.
